Mississippi reports $10.5 million in Medicaid spending for illegal immigrants from 2023 to 2025

Mississippi has reported spending more than $10.5 million on Medicaid for illegal immigrants from 2023 through 2025, according to a report commissioned by State Auditor Shad White.

White ordered the review after discovering that Mississippi had never reported Medicaid payments for illegal immigrants, despite federal law requiring such disclosures. The state’s Division of Medicaid identified the spending during its investigation.

White emphasized the importance of transparency regarding the costs of illegal immigration and how taxpayer dollars are used. His office plans to continue monitoring and reporting on government spending, including areas that have previously gone unreported, he said.
