Mississippi Wildlife Department Encourages Shooting Sports Participation

The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks is encouraging residents to visit its shooting facilities as National Shooting Sports Month comes to a close. The month is dedicated to promoting participation in shooting sports and emphasizing firearm safety, according to department officials.

Three facilities are highlighted for their diverse offerings. The McIvor Shooting Facility in northern Mississippi features shotgun and pistol ranges, as well as 3D archery. The Turcotte Shooting Facility in central Mississippi provides spaces for testing rifles, pistols, and skeet shooting. In south Mississippi, the McHenry Shooting Facility offers a variety of ranges, fields, and archery targets, officials said.

MDWFP’s facilities also provide handgun safety classes and shotgun rentals. Residents interested in visiting can learn more on the department’s website.

Officials encourage the public to check out these locations and share their experiences to support ongoing firearm safety awareness.
