Northeast Mississippi Community College said its Paramedic Program gave students a lesson that moved from the patient care setting into a mock courtroom exercise on the Northeast campus. Shane Scott, J.D., an instructor at the college, led the session, according to NEMCC.
The college said students first completed a patient simulation and then took part in a mock cross-examination. During that exercise, they answered questions about their clinical decisions, patient care and documentation. NEMCC said the format gave students a firsthand look at how paramedic care can be questioned months or even years after a call.
NEMCC said the lesson was meant to show that paramedic care does not end when the ambulance doors close. The college said students are learning to make sound decisions, document accurately and confidently explain the care they provide. NEMCC said that approach prepares students for the real-world responsibilities of the profession, not just an exam.
