MEMA urges Mississippians to prepare as Hurricane Isaias strengthens
The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency on Thursday urged residents to prepare now as Hurricane Isaias approaches the northern Gulf Coast, sharing NOAA/National Hurricane Center Advisory 7 from 4:00 a.m. CDT. MEMA said the storm is expected to strengthen and become a strong hurricane as it moves closer to the coast Friday.
The advisory says a storm surge warning remains in effect from the Mouth of the Mississippi River to Steinhatchee, Florida, and a hurricane warning remains in effect from Ocean Springs, Mississippi, to the Bay/Gulf County line in Florida. The update also warns that heavy rainfall is expected Friday into the weekend, with flash flooding, urban flooding and isolated river flooding possible.
MEMA directed residents to follow the Mississippi Department of Transportation for road conditions throughout the weekend and said people who have not prepared yet should do so now. The agency also pointed residents to its hurricane prep resources and said to keep following local forecasts for the latest updates.
