Alcorn County officials are targeting the end of 2026 to complete the courthouse renovation in downtown Corinth after delays in the century-old building. Courthouse work has a new completion target

Chief Administrative Officer Bobby Burns gave the year-end estimate during a recent courthouse walk-through, according to the Daily Corinthian, as reported by Alcorn County News. Construction began in May 2024 under a 365-day contract. The project has restored courtroom features hidden by earlier remodeling and will expand the Circuit Clerk’s office into space formerly used by the Tax Collector’s Office. Enrollment falls in Corinth and Alcorn schools

Enrollment is down 4 percent in the Corinth School District and 3.8 percent in the Alcorn School District from last school year, according to the Daily Corinthian figures cited in Alcorn County News. The report notes that a transition provision protecting districts from funding losses expires in July 2027, making student counts a concern for future budgets. Read the school enrollment report.

Abe’s Grill reopens; Kiwanis supports children’s care

Abe’s Grill on Highway 72 in Corinth has reopened after closing following founder Abe Whitfield’s death on Sept. 12. The family is welcoming customers back to the longtime restaurant. Read the reopening story.

The Corinth Kiwanis Club has donated $20,000 to Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital to support pediatric care at the Memphis hospital and its Tupelo Outpatient Center. The services reach North Mississippi families, including those in Alcorn County. Read the Kiwanis donation story.

Police release September felony arrest list

Corinth police released a monthly list Monday identifying three people arrested on felony charges in September: Paul Michael Owen, charged with burglary of a commercial building; Bradley Alex Davis, charged with firearms trafficking; and Karen Marie Kirkland, charged with felony taking of a motor vehicle. The department’s release did not provide bond information or case circumstances. These are allegations, and all three are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court. Cool mornings forecast through Friday

The National Weather Service in Memphis forecast cool Corinth mornings through Friday, Oct. 9, in its Sunday, Oct. 4, outlook. The graphic lists a Corinth low of 52 degrees Tuesday, Oct. 6, followed by mid-50s lows through Friday. Jacinto and Booneville announce fall festivals

The Jacinto Foundation’s festival runs from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, at the Historic Jacinto Courthouse in southeastern Alcorn County. Plans include trunk-or-treat, a costume contest, music, games and $5 hayrides. A single murder mystery dinner theater performance is scheduled for 6 p.m.; tickets are $35, with reservations by text at 662-415-2815. Booneville’s festival is scheduled for 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17, at the downtown Triangle, with two music stages, food, artisans and children’s activities. New outdoor buying guides
