Charlotte’s Web Opens at Corinth Coliseum This Weekend
The Charlotte’s Web stage play opens tonight at the Corinth Coliseum. The Corinth Dramatic Society is putting on three performances of the children’s classic this weekend, Sept. 25–27, at the historic theater on Taylor Street in downtown Corinth.
The show is billed as “Some Pig,” after the famous words Charlotte the spider spins into her web to save her friend Wilbur. It is a family-friendly option on a busy fall weekend in Alcorn County.
Charlotte’s Web at Corinth Coliseum: Showtimes and Tickets
The Corinth Dramatic Society’s promotional poster lists these performances:
- Friday, Sept. 25 at 7 p.m.
- Saturday, Sept. 26 at 7 p.m.
- Sunday, Sept. 27 at 2 p.m. (matinee)
Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students. They can be bought online through the Corinth Coliseum’s page on CUR8, the theater’s ticketing platform, where all three dates are listed. The Coliseum is at 404 Taylor St.
Local businesses Garrett Eye Clinic and Gingers/Gingersnaps are sponsoring the show. The production is staged by special arrangement with The Dramatic Publishing Company of Woodstock, Illinois, which licenses the stage adaptation of E.B. White’s 1952 novel.
A First Youth Production for the Troupe
The Daily Corinthian reports that this is the Corinth Dramatic Society’s first youth production and only its second show overall. The newspaper says the group depends entirely on volunteers. No one in the cast or production crew is paid, and organizers say the show represents hundreds of hours of donated time.
The story will be familiar to many families. Fern, a young farm girl, saves a runt piglet named Wilbur. Wilbur then forms an unlikely friendship with Charlotte, a wise barn spider, who comes up with a plan to keep him off the dinner table. It is a story about friendship, loyalty, and growing up, and it has been a favorite with school groups and young audiences for generations.
Leading up to opening night, the Corinth Dramatic Society promoted the show on social media with the line “Come one, come all to Charlotte’s Web,” including a video clip produced by Laurie White Productions.
The Historic Corinth Coliseum
The Corinth Coliseum was built in 1923 and 1924 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980. It remains one of downtown Corinth’s best-known landmarks. The restored theater now hosts concerts, community productions, and special events, and shows like this one help bring evening foot traffic to the Historic Downtown Corinth district.
