Mississippi disaster assistance centers to close in some counties this month

Disaster Survivor Assistance Centers in Mississippi will close in some counties Saturday at 2 p.m., according to the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency. The centers will shut in Carroll, Coahoma, Grenada, Holmes, Montgomery, Quitman, Tallahatchie, Tunica, and Yalobusha counties.

New centers will open Monday at 8 a.m. in Adams, Bolivar, Claiborne, Issaquena, Jefferson, Sharkey, Sunflower, Warren, and Washington counties, the agency said. Centers in Alcorn, Benton, Lafayette, Leflore, Panola, and Yazoo counties will remain open.

All Disaster Recovery Centers and Disaster Survivor Assistance locations will close on May 23. The application deadline for disaster assistance remains June 10. Officials emphasized that receiving benefits will not impact Social Security, Medicare, or Medicaid benefits.
