CORINTH — Corinth Theatre-Arts announced its permanent, immediate closure Friday, Oct. 2, ending nearly six decades of community theater after losing its appeal of the city’s eviction from its longtime playhouse.

Corinth Theatre-Arts announces permanent closure
The theater’s board cited “breaches of trust and financial issues” in its Friday statement. Those characterizations are the board’s account of the circumstances surrounding the closure. The announcement follows an unsuccessful appeal in Alcorn County Circuit Court of the City of Corinth’s eviction from the city-owned building at 303 South Fulton Drive.
Founded in 1968, the volunteer-powered organization staged dramas, comedies, musicals and children’s productions. Its board thanked the performers, volunteers, sponsors and audiences who supported it. Read the full closure report.
Police investigate Thursday shooting
One person was flown to an area hospital after a shooting near Scott and Dorsey streets around 3 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 1, according to Police Chief Landon Tucker’s account to the Daily Corinthian, reported by Alcorn County News. Tucker said police were investigating.
The source report said that, as of Thursday evening, police had not identified the injured person, disclosed the person’s condition or announced an arrest. It reported no confirmed motive. Read the shooting report.
Corinth wins division opener 63-0
Corinth shut out South Pontotoc 63-0 at Corinth Warrior Stadium on Thursday, Oct. 1, according to the Corinth Touchdown Club. The victory moved the Warriors to 3-2 overall and 1-0 in division play after the game was moved ahead of Friday’s storm forecast.

Weather updates point to rain and cooler temperatures
In updates published Thursday evening, the National Weather Service in Memphis forecast rain chances with an approaching cold front, followed by more seasonable temperatures. The later update showed Corinth highs of 82 Saturday, Oct. 3, and 77 Sunday, Oct. 4, with a low of 51 Monday, Oct. 5. The office expected many areas to receive about an inch of rain, with localized North Mississippi totals up to 1.5 inches; it did not anticipate a complete weekend washout.

Northeast discusses manufacturing apprenticeship partnership
Regional industry leaders met at Northeast Mississippi Community College in Booneville on Oct. 1 to discuss a possible Federation for Advanced Manufacturing Education chapter. The model combines college coursework with paid manufacturing work and could provide a training option for employers and students in Alcorn and neighboring counties.
The college has not announced a launch date, participating employers or an initial class size. The meeting concerned a potential partnership. Read the FAME partnership report.
Trash & Treasures continues Saturday
Tishomingo County’s Trash & Treasures Along the Tenn-Tom yard sale runs Oct. 2-3 along more than 50 miles of routes including Highways 25 and 72. Tishomingo County Tourism says vendors may set up without an event fee, although private landowners may charge for space.
